On June 22 the first sittings of the standing committees of the National Assembly of the fourth convocation took place, having on the agenda the election of the deputy chairmen, the approval of the Rules of Procedure and the issues of the work organization.

Mr. Vazgen Karakhanyan (RPA) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly.

On the proposal of Mr. Armen Roustamyan five subcommittees were set up- on Artsakh, regional issues, foreign economic relations, works with international organizations, integration issues and the localization issues of the international experience and the issues of the protection of rights of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia living overseas (permanent and temporary) and Armenians by their origin. The Rules of Procedure of the committee were presented to the members of the committee for debate and approval.

Ms. Naira Zohrabyan (PAP) was elected as deputy chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly.

Subcommittees on mass media, cinema, theatre, science, different levels of education, publication, sports, links with Diaspora, culture and youth were established. Mrs. Hranush Hakobyan, Chairwoman of the Committee presented to the members the Rules of Procedure of the committee for debate and approval.

Mr. Armen Danielyan (ARF) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly. On the proposal of Mrs. Arevik Petrosyan, Chairwoman of the Committee, the Rules of Procedure of the committee were approved by the MPs’ voting.

Mr. Hakob Hakobyan (ARF) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs of the National Assembly.

Mr. Artur Aghabekyan presented the members the Rules of Procedure of the committee for discussion and approval.

Mr. Mkrtich Minasyan (ARF) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care and Environmental Protection of the National Assembly. On the proposal of Mr. Ara Babloyan, Chairman of the Committee, the edited Rules of Procedure of the committee were unanimously approved.

Mr. Vardan Bostanjyan (PAP) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly.

Mr. Vardan Ayvazyan, Chairman of the Committee presented the Rules of Procedure of the committee, noting the spheres of the activity: taxes, duties, payments, agriculture, industry, urban development, energy, transport, communication, telecommunication, other branches of production infrastructure, tourism, trade and services, regional development, entrepreneurial activity, state property management.

The Rules of Procedure of the committee were adopted.

Mr. Artoush Shahbazyan (ARF) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly. Mr. Davit Harutyunyan presented to the members the Rules of Procedure of the committee for debate and approval.

Mr. Artsvik Minasyan (ARF) was elected as deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly. Mr. Gagik Minasyan, Chairman of the Committee noted that during every quarter the committee should organize budget discussions, when the government presents the quarter reports. The committee should have an important role in implementing the oversight function of the National Assembly, especially after separating the Control Chamber from the parliament and declaring it as an independent body by Constitution. On the proposal of Mr. Gagik Minasyan, Chairman of the Committee, the Rules of Procedure were presented to the members for discussion and approval.

The sitting of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly will take place on June 25.
