On March 5, the deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hasmik Hakobyan met with the 4-year students of the Faculty of International Relations of Yerevan State University (YSU), passing professional internship in parliament.

“In the reports based on the studies held by the international structures it is noted that the media sector is very polarized in Armenia,” Hasmik Hakobyan said, touching upon the issues relating to the media sector of the country. She mentioned that after 2018 revolution the freedom of speech made progress in Armenia.

According to the deputy, one of the reasons of polarization of the media sector is the also not having financial freedom of media: The market of advertisement is underdeveloped, and all that results in carrying out an order. Hasmik Hakobyan underscored that media should provide unbiased information, first the information should be studied, then objective fact would be presented. The MP added that many mass media work by the order of this or that political party. She informed that party media also functions in Armenia.

Hasmik Hakobyan referred to the legislative initiative adopted in the first reading, which will give possibility to regulate the field and at the same time not restrict the freedom of speech.

The future diplomats also talked with the deputy about the issues regarding priorities of foreign policy of our country, the regional situation, Armenia’s joining the CSTO and the cooperation with the framework of the EEU.
