Hasmik Hakobyan: In February, International Court of Justice Obliged Azerbaijan to Ensure Unimpeded Movement on Lachin Corridor, but Azerbaijani Side Does Not Take Necessary Steps to Implement Court’s Decision
1 / 3

At the meeting of the parliamentary delegations of CSTO member states at the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Bahrain, a member of the RA NA delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Hasmik Hakobyan spoke about the idleness of the CSTO in case of Azerbaijan’s occupation of Armenia's sovereign territories.

“In May and November 2021, as well as in September last year, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale armed aggression against the Republic of Armenia, as a result of which about 150 km2 of the sovereign territories of Armenia is occupied. In this situation, the military and political support of the CSTO partners was important for Armenia. And we are sorry that our organization (CSTO) still does not have a clear political assessment that an attack was made on the sovereign border of the Republic of Armenia, and that Azerbaijan occupied the territories of the CSTO member state,” Hasmik Hakobyan mentioned.

Speaking about the issues regarding the humanitarian crisis and security in Nagorno-Karabakh, the deputy noted that despite the fact that in February this year the International Court of Justice obliged Azerbaijan to ensure unimpeded movement on the Lachin Corridor, which is the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with the outside world, the Azerbaijani side did not take necessary steps to implement the court’s Decision.

“For three months, along with the blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the creation of a humanitarian disaster, Azerbaijan continues to terrorize the native Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh. The Azerbaijani army regularly violates the ceasefire regime. A peaceful resident of Nagorno-Karabakh, who was doing agricultural work, was shot recently. As a result of the sabotage attack carried out by the armed forces of Azerbaijan on March 5, three policemen of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh were killed and another officer was injured,” Hasmik Hakobyan said.

She also called on those present to condemn the use of force by Azerbaijan, as well as the provocative manifestations of a large-scale military operation.
