Summer School Courses Start in Parliament
1 / 26

“The days you will spend in the National Assembly will be crucial for you. You have the best chance to create your future,” welcoming the participants of the Summer School programme, the Chief of Staff, Secretary General of the RA National Assembly Vahan Naribekyan said. He informed the students that the building of the National Assembly of Armenia is the fourth most beautiful structure of legislative bodies in the world.

On August 22, the Summer School programme has started in the RA National Assembly. About 48 students from high schools of the Republic of Armenia who passed the competition stage participate in the programme.

Since early morning, the students eagerly waited for the start of the courses, asking the organizers different questions: one wanted to see the restored Coat of Arms, the other was interested in how to participate in the process of writing laws.

“If I had been given such an opportunity during my school years, then, without a doubt, I would not have missed this opportunity to gain theoretical and practical knowledge about the foundations of the state and the structure, activities and powers of the legislative body,” welcoming the students, a member of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Hasmik Hakobyan said.

During the courses, the students will meet with the deputies, persons with political and public authority, and employees of the units that ensure the normal operation of the NA staff.

The deputy Hasmik Hakobyan presented the history of the Armenian parliament from 1918 to the present day and referred to the history of the construction of the building of the National Assembly. The Chair of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan presented the characteristic of the modern state to the students, referred to the theory and features of the sovereign, democratic, legal, social, and secular state. At the request of the students, the Chair of the Committee referred to the activities of the legislative body, the interaction between the Government and the National Assembly.

The students noted that they are happy to have the opportunity to participate in the courses of the Summer School. They are sure that the school will open up new horizons for them, introduce them to the management skills.

The participants of the programme took a tour in the territory of the building of parliament, visited the museum of the National Assembly.

It should be noted that the Summer School programme is implemented in support of the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project funded by the Government of Sweden.
