NA President of Armenia Alen Simonyan Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili
1 / 4

On April 30, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili.

Alen Simonyan congratulated Ilia Darchiashvili on his appointment to the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs and on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. He underlined that the continuous development of special good neighborly relations with Georgia is one of our priorities, which is also expressed in the RA Government program (2021-2026).

The sides discussed issues related to the security and stability in the region. The President of the National Assembly noted that to this end Armenia takes steps to improve relations with all its neighbors.

He reminded of the continuous violations of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 by official Baku, noting that those actions are aimed at exerting psychological pressure on the people of Nagorno Karabakh, disrupting the normal operation of vital infrastructure. The issue of Armenian prisoners of war and political hostages being held in Azerbaijan was touched upon. Alen Simonyan reaffirmed the priority of guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh and the importance of the status of Nagorno Karabakh, attaching great importance to the start of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the peace agreement and the implementation of other equivalent actions.

Thanking for the reception, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia noted that Georgia is always ready for close cooperation and support to promote peace. He stated that a peaceful neighborhood and meeting challenges together is important for the development of the region.

The sides stressed the need to move in all directions for the development of bilateral relations.
