Commission on Television and Radio Works Transparently and Independently, There is No Pressure on the Commission: Tigran Hakobyan
1 / 4

In 2021, the press worked easily and freely.

“The declared principles that the Government will not interfere in the activities of the mass media, have mainly been preserved,” the Chairman of the Commission on Television and Radio (CTR) Tigran Hakobyan said about that, presenting the annual report of the structure led by him at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport.

Tigran Hakobyan has touched upon the European Union (EU) report, where it notes that Armenia has improved its positions by 17 paragraphs compared with 2018, and it is on the 63rd place among 180 states. In 2021, the complaints on interfering in the editorial work by the media have sufficiently been decreased.

The CTR Chairman underlined that they work transparently and independently. There is no and there cannot be any pressure on the Committee.

Tigran Hakobyan also spoke about the necessity of amending the law regulating the video and audio field. Emphasizing the abovementioned law, he has underscored that it ensures the freedom and independence of the press, but contains dangers for the technical security of Armenia.

The Chairman of the Commission on Television and Radio informed that by 31 December 2021, 110 licensed companies worked.

The NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport postponed up to two months the debate of the draft law on Amending the RA Tax Code because of the key rapporteur’s absence.
