On April 3, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy Luigi Di Maio.

At the meeting, the entering into force of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which could also promote the development and strengthening of bilateral economic relations, was mutually highlighted.

Touching upon the 44-day war and its consequences, the RA NA President noted that the final and fair solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem should be within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. The Head of Parliament conveyed his gratitude to the Italian Minister for the resolutions and statements adopted by about 50 regional city councils for the defense of Artsakh and its people. In this context Alen Simonyan has singled out the resolution adopted by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy on 2 March 2021, which calls on Azerbaijan to release Armenian prisoners of war.

The sides referred to the need of Armenia-Italy multi-polar cooperation, in that issue considering the parliamentary diplomacy as a key one. Alen Simonyan qualified impressive the fact that in Parliament of Italy besides the Friendship Group with Armenia the section of Italy-Armenia friendship bilateral relations also functions within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

At the end of the meeting the RA NA President conveyed greetings to his Italian colleague. He expressed hope that the planned visit of the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Roberto Fico to Armenia would be in the near future and the Armenian-Italian inter-parliamentary enlivening and friendly relations would continue developing.
