NA President Alen Simonyan Meets with President of Hellenic Parliament

On October 20, ahead of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments the RA NA President Alen Simonyan was hosted by the President of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas. Welcoming the RA NA President, the President of the Hellenic Parliament, stressed the importance of the cooperation between the parliaments of two countries. Speaking about the joint programmes, he distinguished the Twinning Project being implemented within the framework of the EU partnership. To his assessment, the parliaments of Armenia and Greece accumulated succeeded and exemplary experience for the implementation of this Project.

Thanking the President of the Hellenic Parliament for the reception and the invitation for the participation in the Conference, the RA NA President in the face of the Greek colleague, congratulated the friendly Greek people on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the national revolution of the liberation from the Ottoman Empire.

The sides have affirmed that the Armenian-Greek inter-state relations are at high level, underlining the availability of the full agenda in many spheres by both sides. The RA NA President greatly highlighted the cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Greece, underscoring the role of the Friendship Groups’ activities. Alen Simonyan has assured that Armenia is concerned about boosting the inter-parliamentary cooperation on the bilateral and multi-lateral platforms.

At the meeting the perspectives of trilateral cooperation in the parliamentary format Armenia-Greece-Cyprus were also discussed. The sides touched upon the situation existing after 44-day war. In this context the RA NA President especially highlighted the balanced position of Greece in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
