Photo Exhibition Titled Road to Democracy in National Assembly
1 / 9

On September 24, in the framework of the events on 30th anniversary of the RA independence, the opening of the photo exhibition with the heading Road to Democracy was held in the RA National Assembly which was carried out together with the Armenpress news agency.

Thanking the NA Staff and the Armenpress news agency for organizing the exhibition, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan noted that democracy in Armenia always underwent various ordeals in different periods: “Since the independence of Armenia, despite the various serious social problems of the initial period, as well as the ongoing war in parallel, the RA had reputation of an island of democracy in the region. Unfortunately, later we deviated from that direction as a consequence of different events.” In this context, Eduard Aghajanyan singled out two events which deviated the RA from the above-mentioned direction for a long time. According to Aghajanyan, those are the 1996 presidential elections and the crimes of October 27, 1999.

According to the Committee Chair, after the 2018 revolution, the democracy continuously underwent various ordeals, the pandemic, the war and other difficulties. “Both the current authority and later the authorities to be formed should realize that they will always undergo those ordeals and never deviate from the direction of democracy in parallel with the risk management,” he noted.

The Director of the Armenpress news agency Aram Ananyan stated that the selection of the photos was made in a symbolic way: the independence and the photos symbolizing the continuity of independence was chosen: “15 archive and 15 up to date photos are exhibited. We have tried to pay attention to the symbols of independence, to the road of Armenia to the democratic state, to the state, the principles of which are defined both by the Declaration of Independence and by our Constitution.”

Aram Ananyan has thanked the journalists and photographers who have collected the unique drawer, through which the last decades of the modern history are restored.

At the same time with the photo exhibitions, a documentary film with the title Eyes of Independence dedicated to Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia was presented.
