Statement of RA National Assembly
1 / 1

At May 14 extraordinary sitting, the parliament unanimously adopted with 86 for votes the statement of the RA National Assembly on Issues Directed to the Crisis Created in the Border Zones, Particularly in Syunik, Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor Regions, the Existing Problems and the Ways of Their Solution, Ensuring the Defense and Security of the Borders, which reads:

“The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia records that on 12 May 2021, the Azerbaijani armed forces penetrated into the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of the Lake Sev territory of Syunik Region with a pretext of making “specification of borders” and doing certain works at one of the border sections of Syunik, deepening several kilometres to Verishen settlement. At this moment, several hundred representatives of the Azerbaijani armed forces continue being in the territory of the Republic of Armenia – in some sections of Syunik and Gegharkunik regions.

At the sitting held on May 13 of this year of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia it was recorded that it had been the second day of the critical situation around the Lake Sev of Syunik region and in the adjacent areas.

These actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces are unaccepta ble for the Republic of Armenia, it is an obvious encroachment on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, and the Republic of Armenia will not tolerate in any case the created situation.

Taking into consideration the anti-Armenian bellicose policy pursued by Azerbaijan, during the last period the obvious aspirations towards the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia by the leadership of Azerbaijan, among numerous statements containing threats of use of force, as well as the Armenophobia being campaigned at state level through decades, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia strictly condemns the encroachments on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia by Azerbaijan and proves that the aggressive policy being pursued by Azerbaijan violates the fundamental principles of the international law stipulated by the UN Charter, which reserve the Republic of Armenia the right by the international law, to take adequate actions stipulated by the Constitution and the legislation of the Republic of Armenia.

The National Assembly, as the highest representative body of the people of the Republic of Armenia,

· announces that decisive rough actions will be taken to suspend the military aggression of Azerbaijan and to defend the people of the Republic of Armenia and the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia

· calls on the international community to condemn the provocative actions, the threats of use of force and the their factual use against the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia by Azerbaijan, which threaten the regional crumbling peace and security.”
