Speech by Member of RA NA Delegation to PACE Naira Zohrabyan
1 / 1

Make Azerbaijan return Armenian prisoners of war: every day of captivity is a hell for our guys.

Today, we discuss a very important report – the priorities and the strategy of our structure.

It is a fact that during last years the Council of Europe and our Assembly go through strange transformations pre-indicating their priorities.

At least it is at least doubtful that the Council of Europe, which as if has turned into an anti-Russian club, it chooses the item of the Russian opposition Alexey Navalny number one theme on its all last agendas. Meanwhile what happens in some Council of Europe member countries in the 21st century, is simply heinous: a few days ago an unprecedented exhibition with its cynicism opened in Baku, the exhibition of the trophies confiscated from the Armenian side in Artsakh last war, and one should see how proudly Aliyev was walking through the helmets of the killed Armenian soldiers, one should see how the Azerbaijani children were entertaining themselves strangling the Armenian soldiers’ mannequins.

Today, the issue of that fascist exhibition of Baku should become one of the priority items.

The scene, how the Azerbaijanis were standing in the queue of kilometres to see that exhibition of blasphemy, was very terrible. They brought with them their children, who were announcing that an Armenian is their genetic enemy.

Dear colleagues, it is good that finally our Assembly will discuss the item of the Armenian prisoners of war (POWs). Six months after the war we have hundreds of POWs detained in the prisons of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan not only refuses to give accurate information to the European Court of Human Rights on the Armenian POWs, but cynically announces that they are not POWs. By the way, recently the parents of one of the POWs buried. I would like to understand why until now the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Council of Europe has not visited prisons in Baku to see in what inhuman conditions are kept the Armenian POWs.

Dear colleagues, when the Council of Europe member states Azerbaijan and Turkey being next to us cynically violate the human rights, when Aliyev announces that they won in this war, because they raised a whole generation of the Azerbaijani young people with hatred against the enemy, this kind of racist and Armenophobic announcements should become a subject of discussion of our organization, otherwise we violate with fake agendas the fundamental values of our structure.
