Launch of the Manual The Examples of Successful Experience in Sphere of Laws on Citizenship Preventing and Reducing the De-citizenship in Parliament

On December 5, the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs jointly with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation organized the launch of the Armenian version of The Examples of Successful Experiences in Sphere of Laws on Citizenship Preventing and Reducing De-Citizenship designed for parliamentarians. The manual includes the successful experiences of the countries that have overcome this problem, have been able to find a solution in the legislative or in any other version.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Representative in Armenia Anna-Carin Ost, expressing her gratitude to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for organizing the presentation, noted that she highly appreciated Armenia's efforts aimed at reducing the issue of de-citizenship. The Office expressed its readiness to assist Armenia in reforming its legislation.

Highlighting the necessity of the manual the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan noted that according to the data of 2019, 913 people living in Armenia have no citizenship. “It is very important when you can say I belong to, I am a citizen. We still have problems to regulate this field legally,” Naira Zohrabyan underlined.

The Committee Chair expressed readiness to solve the issues raised by the Government decisions and legislative regulations.

The exhibition of the documentary photos by Greg Constantine Nowhere People was also presented in the parliament, where the situation of the communities of the persons without citizenship of the world is presented.
