At September 19 sitting moderated by Varazdat Karapetyan, the RA NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment debated items on preservation of forests and forestry economics.

The RA Deputy Minister of Environment Vardan Melikyan presented the problems facing the sphere, the development short-term and long-term programmes. The Deputy Minister highlighted the item of having specialists with higher education.

The improvement of the legislation of the sphere was considered important. The Deputy Minister informed that in the near future the Forestry National Programme would be elaborated which would give an opportunity to implement comprehensive solutions in the sphere.

The participants also touched upon the illegal forest cutting down, and it was noted that in a number of territories police bases were deployed. In the preservation of forest territories Varazdat Karapetyan proposed to limit the use of the forest material for industrial purposes.

During the working debate the MPs raised numerous items. The debates concerning the sphere would be of continuous character.
