Ruben Rubinyan: Armenia Will Continue Cooperation with NATO in Existing Formats

On February 15, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan received the delegation led by the Head of the NATO Liaison Office in the South Caucasus Rosaria Puglisi.

Welcoming the guest in the RA National Assembly, the Committee Chair has noted that the cooperation with NATO is one of the foreign policy priorities of Armenia, and Armenia will continue the cooperation with NATO in the existing formats.

In this context the sides discussed the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the relations with NATO, in connection with which Ruben Rubinyan has noted that the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations is ready to make practical investment for actively and effectively implementing the agendas of the parliamentary cooperation with NATO.

The sides also discussed the processes aimed at the development of democracy in Armenia and the reforms, and Rosaria Puglisi noted that changes occurred in Armenia certainly would have their positive influence also on the region.

During the meeting the sides also touched upon the Karabakh conflict peaceful settlement process. With regards to this Ruben Rubinyan has noted that the Karabakh conflict is not simply a territorial problem: it is the issue of the execution of the right to the Artsakh people’s self-determination.

The parties also discussed the importance of exclusion of the bellicose rhetoric in the peaceful settlement of the conflict as a constructive step of the commitment for the solution of the problem.

Ruben Rubinyan and Rosaria Puglisi expressed willingness for closer cooperation for the most effective realization of the role reserved to the parliament on the RA-NATO cooperation agenda.
