Ambassador of Poland in the National Assembly

On July 23, Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia received Mr. Tomasz Knothe, Ambassador of Poland to Armenia.

Mr. Knothe conveyed to the President of the National Assembly the congratulations of the Marshal of the Senate of Poland Mr. Bogdan Borusewicz regarding the perfectly held parliamentary elections and an invitation for an official visit to the Republic of Poland .

Mr. Tigran Torosyan President of the National Assembly thanked him for the congratulations and the invitation, noting the importance of the visit of Mr. Borusewicz to Armenia and the fair and balanced position that the President of the Senate expressed after his visit to the region, which helped to overcome the conflicts. The President of the National Assembly noted that in September parliamentary friendship groups will be established in the National Assembly of the fourth convocation, and a similar group with the parliament of Poland will also be set up, which will promote the development of effective relations. Noting the high level of inter-parliamentary ties with Poland Mr. Tigran Torosyan highlighted the necessity of deepening relations, in particular, studying the Polish experience and the organization of parliamentary life in the process of European integration. The President of the National Assembly noted the importance of cooperation in the international structures within the framework of the programmes of European development. Touching upon the reforms, Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly said that with the end of the first stage, after the constitutional reforms, good preconditions had been created for the progress of the country and for the successful realization of the reforms of the second stage, holding parliamentary elections that comply with democratic standards and achieving high indices of economic development. In this context, the President of the National Assembly also highlighted holding the upcoming presidential elections at a high level and after that new opportunities for progressive development of the country will be opened during the next 4-5 years.

The President of the National Assembly Mr. Tigran Torosyan expressed his condolences to the people and authority of Poland for the pilgrims that perished in the crash in France noting that, unfortunately, nobody is guaranteed free from similar misfortunes. But the Polish people, who had overcome numerous difficulties in its history, will also resist this one with honor.

Having given his thanks for the condolences, the Ambassador of Poland to Armenia Mr. Tomasz Knothe noted that in his opinion good preconditions are also created in Armenia for political and economic success, and active relations could be established with the European Union, deepening the New Neighbourhood policy. In that aspect not only the study of the experience of Poland can be useful, but also Poland will show possible support to Armenia, as it is interested in effective relations with the countries of the former USSR, and especially in deepening relations with the countries of the South Caucasus. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of the development of inter-parliamentary relations by establishing ties between committees, especially the committee on Foreign Relations and the newly formed committee on European Integration.

Other issues of mutual interest were also debated during the meeting.
