Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in the National Assembly

On February 23 Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia received Mr. Charles Ghislain, newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Armenia.

“I am sure that your activities will be useful to deepen the relations between two countries and during your term of office we will have more active inter-parliamentary relations,” said the President of the National Assembly, welcoming Mr. Ghislain. The relations with the Kingdom of Belgium were highlighted in political and economic, international organizations in the context of cooperation. Mr. Torosyan noted that Euro-integration is one of the priorities in the policy of Armenia, the constitutional reforms aimed to have a legislation in compliance with European standards, and after parliamentary elections the provisions in constitutional reforms concerning the political system will come into force, too. After joining the Council of Europe, Armenia has greatly felt the support of the Council of Europe for the implementation of the reforms.

Mr. Charles Ghislain, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Armenia noted that his task is to develop the relations between two countries in all spheres and particularly in inter-parliamentary relations. The Ambassador also noted that Belgium has always had sensitive attitude towards Armenia and the Armenians. It’s not accidental that the Belgian Parliament was the first in Europe to point out the mistake made during the Turkish history, touching upon the fact of genocide and today’s Armenia in the textbooks of History. One of his activity issues the Ambassador found the enlargement of economic relations and the establishment of acting relations between the entrepreneurs of the two countries. As to him, Armenia, member to the Council of Europe, one day will also be in the European Union, fully joining the big European family.

During the meeting the two sides touched upon the upcoming parliamentary elections too, their holding in compliance with international standards was emphasized. Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly, stressed that the elections are important for Armenia, not only in the aspect of power formation, but also - in Armenia’s development process during next years and continuation of the reforms.

During the meeting the judicial system reforms were touched upon as well. Upon the Ambassador’s request the President of the National Assembly informed him about the reforms that have been made and about the process of their implementation.
