On June 2 Artur Baghdasaryan, RA NA Speaker, met the representatives of CE Venice Commission.

Mr. Giovanni Buquicchio mentioned that since 2000 Armenia is in the process of Constitutional amendments and great work has been implemented in that direction, thus to have a main law in compliance with the establishment of real democracy and international standards the principles of balance of the authorities are important, as well as the existence of not only as perfect legislation as possible but also the democratic atmosphere in the country and the guarantees that the adopted laws function.

Highlighting the cooperation with Venice Commission in the establishment of democracy Artur Baghdasaryan, NA Speaker, noted that the drafts that are primarily circulated and are adopted in the first reading have qualitative differences, so, there are issues that are subject to be worked out, including the issues of the independence of judicial power, election of the Maoyor of Yerevan, differentiating the competence of the authority.

During the meeting they agreed in discussing the reviewed version jointly with the members of Venice Commission once more till the end of June then to adopt the reviewed version by the second reading during the extraordinary sitting. In that case referendum will take place in October.

Expressing his satisfaction from the meeting Mr. Buquicchio assured Artur Baghdasaryan, NA Speaker, about the support of Venice Commission and the constant readiness for joint work.
