Ara Babloyan Receives Presidential Commissioner of Cyprus
1 / 4

On June 19, the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan received the delegation led by Fotis Fotiou, Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus.

Welcoming the visit of the delegation to the National Assembly, Ara Babloyan highly assessed the political dialogue existing between Armenia and Cyprus. He noted: “During recent years the parliamentary relations between Armenia and Cyprus have passed onto a new phase due to joint efforts, and today excellent inter-parliamentary cooperation exists.”

The RA NA Speaker expressed his gratitude to the friendly people of Cyprus for helping many emigrants, who hardly survived the 1915 Genocide and for recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide in 1975 as the first European country. In the RA NA Speaker’s word, Armenia and Cyprus always supported each other’s positions in Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the settlement of the Cyprus problem.

The RA NA Speaker expressed hope that the problem facing Cyprus will get fair legal solution.

Ara Babloyan also touched upon the issue of mutual support of the Armenian and Cypriot parliamentary delegations in the international structures, highlighting the cooperation also on those platforms.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Cypriots of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Fotis Fotiou thanked the RA NA Speaker for the reception, noting that the two countries have historical commonalities and ancient culture, on which the peoples’ friendship is based.

Fotis Fotiou also touched upon the Armenian community of Cyprus, which, to his word, has a great role in strengthening and development of the friendly relations with the Republic of Armenia.

Mr Fotiou noted that Cyprus and Armenia should deepen the cooperation in the economic, cultural and spiritual spheres, fighting together for the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and settlement of the problems facing the two countries.
