Ara Babloyan Receives Foreign Minister of Estonia

On June 13, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Sven Mikser.

The RA National Assembly President, welcoming Sven Mikser in the parliament, highlighted the expansion of multi-lateral and mutually beneficial cooperation with Estonia.

In the RA NA President’s word, the Armenian-Estonian relations have been historically friendly based on common system of values.

Ara Babloyan noted: “Today the role of the parliamentary diplomacy is rather inclusive in the inter-state processes and the comprehensive inter-parliamentary contacts are very important, which play special role in the rapprochement of the Armenian-Estonian inter-state relations.”

In this context, the RA NA President underlined the importance of the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups and informed that the RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov will continue to lead Armenia-Estonia Friendship Group.

The RA NA President highly assessed the close and effective cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries on different parliamentary platforms and the balanced position of the Estonian delegation over the sensitive issues for Armenia.

Ara Babloyan noted: “The European Union is one of the important partners, as our cooperation with the EU, first of all, is based on the common system of values. We are resolute with the European Union to continuously deepen and expand our relations.”

Touching upon the situation in the region, the RA NA President reaffirmed Armenia’s position for the settlement of the NK issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group and noted that the peoples with European system of values could not have other approaches.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Sven Mikser, thanking for the reception, talked about the upcoming presidency of Estonia in the European Union Council and highlighted the cooperation with Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. Regarding the NK problem settlement, the Foreign Minister of Estonia noted that it should not be accompanied by violence: the solution should be through diplomatic, negotiating means, and the European Union is ready to promote it.

At the end of the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the signing of the new legal document, Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, regulating the EU-Armenia relations in November of this year, as well as the issue concerning the development of the Armenian-Estonian relations and multi-lateral cooperation.
