On November 16, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan met with the participants of the Forum with the heading Women in the Processes of the Development of the Local Self-Government System: the Perspectives of the Balanced Democracy Establishment in Armenia with the support of the Association of Women with University Education and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)/German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation/. The NA deputies Ruzanna Muradyan, Margarit Yesayan and Naira Karapetyan attended the meeting.
Let us note that the Forum is held within the framework of the jubilee events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the RA local self-government system.
Welcoming the guests, Hermine Naghdalyan highlighted the women’s participation in the public-political processes, touched upon the succeeded experience of the women’s civil and political participation in the local self-government, presented the state policy of the improvement of the local self-government. Mrs Naghdalyan highlighted the preservation of the gender equality in the local self-government system, underlining that only in that case it is possible to have harmonious governance.
“Everybody’s participation in the life of the community is a great step to state progress; it is one more progressive step in the further democratization of our country’s political processes,” the NA Deputy Speaker said.
During the meeting issues regarding the expansion of the women’s participation in the local self-government were discussed. The participants of the meeting presented the problems of their communities, numerous interpellations requiring legislative solution were proposed, which related particularly, to the draft law on Parties. They also touched upon the results and achievements of the local self-government elections.
The NA Deputy Speaker and the female MPs expressed readiness within their authorities to support the skilled women in the community governance in the solution of the existing problems.
At the end of the meeting by the decision of the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan about 10 heads of the communities were awarded for their lasting work on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the contribution to the local self-government.
The NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan handed the awards. She congratulated those awarded and wished them fruitful work during their further activities.
