Meeting at RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On October 27, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan and the Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan received the deputy of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Albert Weiler and the Head of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation (KAS) South Caucasus Regional Office Thomas Schrapel.

Welcoming the guests in the parliament, the Armenian parliamentarians talked about the bilateral developing relations, highly assessed the activities of the Friendship Groups and the formed close cooperation and highlighted the mutual visits. The cooperation with the German colleagues in different parliamentary platforms was highly appreciated.

Talking about the Nagorno Karabakh problem, Artak Zakaryan thanked Germany, who assumed the chairmanship in the OSCE, for the efforts aimed at the peaceful settlement of the problem.

Touching upon the activities of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation Yerevan Office, Artak Zakaryan has noted that the structure is active and implements visible work in Armenia, especially stressing the necessity of the works being done among the youth. The Armenian MPs expressed readiness for showing necessary support in the initiatives and programmes.

In the course of the meeting Armenia-European Union cooperation was discussed, as well as the issues and programmes regarding the development of the Armenian-German relations at parliamentary level. Issues relating to the visits of Armenia’s two parliamentary delegations to Germany in November were also discussed. The sides referred to the situation created in the Eastern Partnership area and the necessity of peaceful settlements.

Talking about bilateral ties, the Bundestag deputy Albert Weiler has noted that Germany makes great efforts for deepening the relations with Armenia. Mr Weiler expressed his sympathy on the crime committed in the RA National Assembly Session Hall seventeen years ago, on October 27.

At the end of the meeting the guests accompanied by Artak Zakaryan and Artak Davtyan visited the memorial eternalizing the memory of the crime victims and paid tribute to their memory.
