On September 30, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov received the President of University of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Roberto Markarian with his wife, Anna Maria Ferrari.

Welcoming the guests in their ancestors’ land, Eduard Sharmazanov talked with satisfaction about the Armenian-Uruguayan developing ties and considered significant Roberto Markarian’s role in the intensification of the relations of the two countries.

“It is a great pride for us that you, being an Armenian by your origin, are the President of the greatest University of Uruguay. Your success once again proves that education and science are invaluable values for the Armenian people. You, Mr Markarian, are one of the “business cards” of the Armenian people in Uruguay and you are a living bridge between the peoples of Armenia and Uruguay.” the NA Deputy Speaker said.

Thanking the NA Deputy Speaker for the invitation and warm reception, Roberto Markarian presented the goals of their visit. He has informed that the University led by him envisages cooperation in different spheres of Yerevan State University, among them there is also a programme to establish a Chair of Armenian Studies in Montevideo University.

The interlocutors expressed confidence that Roberto Markarian’s visit will promote the deepening of the Armenian-Uruguayan cooperation.
