RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov Receives the Delegation Led by Vice President of Parliament of Republic of Ecuador Rosana Alvarado
1 / 4

On May 27, the RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov received the Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador Rosana Alvarado and the members of the Delegation led by her, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of the Republic of Ecuador María Augusta Calle Andrade, Francisco Velasco Andrade, Juan Eduardo Meneses Delgado and Mehmet Dogan. Eduard Sharmazanov expressed his condolence to the members of the Delegation on the earthquake occurred to the people of Ecuador and asked them to express his and the RA NA’s support to the people of Ecuador.

Welcoming the guests’ first visit to Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted the strengthening of the ties between Armenia and Ecuador and the boosting of cooperation in different spheres, in that context especially emphasized the rapprochement of the inter-parliamentary relations. Both sides considered necessary to form Parliamentary Friendship Groups in two parliaments. In this context the RA NA Vice President has noted that Armenia effectively cooperates with a number of countries of Latin America and has expressed hope that the visit of the Delegation led by Mrs Alvarado will also be favourable for expanding the Armenian-Ecuadorian cooperation.

The NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov expressed his gratitude to the guests for visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex of Tsitsernakaberd beforehand. Touching upon the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted the international condemnation of genocides, which, to his assessment, is an important precondition for prevention of repetition of similar gravest crimes.

The RA NA Vice President has also touched upon the regional security issues and in this context talked about the war events unleashed by Azerbaijan on Karabakh-Azerbaijani border at the beginning of April, presenting the atrocities and tortures committed against the Armenian servicemen and civilians by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which remind the handwriting of the ISIS, which today has become evil for mankind or of the Ottoman Turkey in time. Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that Turkey has shown evident support to Azerbaijan in its actions, which not only denies the Genocide occurred more than 100 years ago and does not want to face its history, but also today keeps Armenia under blockade. Eduard Sharmazanov has stated that Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh see the solution of the problem exclusively through peaceful means, unlike Azerbaijan, which always makes war-like rhetoric. In this respect the NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov appreciated the Parliament of Chile, which a few days ago condemned Azerbaijan’s unleashed aggression against the people of Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The NA Vice President expressed hope that the Parliament of Ecuador will also express its attitude and distinct assessment on the problem.

Thanking her colleague for warm reception the Head of the Delegation Rosana Alvarado has noted in her name and in the name of the Delegation that they are impressed by their visit to Memorial Complex of Tsitsernakaberd, and nobody can remain indifferent what sees there. Rosana Alvarado highlighted the condemnation of genocides and considered inadmissible especially the denial policy. Mrs Alvarado, as well as the Chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of the Republic of Ecuador María Augusta Calle Andrade in their words emphasized the realization of the right to the peoples’ self-determination, deeming it the most important principle also for Ecuador. She has informed her counterpart that, as parliamentarians, they will express their position on the Armenian Genocide.
