Nobody Can Silence Voice of Artsakh People’s Freedom: Eduard Sharmazanov to Greek Parliamentarians

On May 20, the RA NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of Armenia-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov being in Athens on a working visit had a meeting with the First Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Anastasios Kourakis, the Head of Greece-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Eleni Stamataki and the Deputy Head of the Group Antonis Balomenakis.

Both sides have noted with satisfaction that the bilateral relations dynamically develop, the necessity of the further strengthening and development of the inter-parliamentary ties, the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups, as well as backing each other at the international platforms was highlighted. The interlocutors also touched upon the recent events occurring in the South Caucasus region.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker informed his Greek colleagues that on May 19 the Factions of the NKR National made a joint state on Condemnation of the Genocide against Greeks in Ottoman Empire. He has noted that thus the NKR has become the fifth country which recognized the Pontian Greek Genocide.

Eduard Sharmazanov expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Greek MPs visited Artsakh and Yerablur Pantheon last month.

“Your visit to Yerablur, where you paid tribute to the memory of the military aggression victims unleashed by Azerbaijan at the beginning of April, showed that you are a genuine propagator of solidarity,” the RA NA Deputy Speaker noted.

Eduard Sharmazanov underlined that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be solved exclusively through peaceful means and nobody can silence the voice of the Artsakh people’s freedom.

The Greek parliamentarians in their turn have noted that Greece supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group directed to the peaceful settlement of the NK problem.

Anastasios Kourakis emphasized the necessity of condemnation of genocides, particularly the Pontian Greek and Armenian Genocide.

The Greek MPs expressed their gratitude to the Parliament of Armenia related to the statement unanimously adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on March 24 of the last year condemning the Greek Genocide in Ottoman Turkey.
