On March 24, the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan, the member of the Committee Vahram Mkrtchyan met with the representatives of the Union of Legal Entities “The National Disability Advocacy Coalition.” The Chairman of the RA Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Tigran Mukuchyan and the CEC member Nune Hovhannisyan attended the meeting.

We’ll note that the Union of Legal Entities “The National Disability Advocacy Coalition” proposes to establish a provision in the RA Draft Electoral Code, by which the compulsory condition of the voting procedures, the accessibility of the venues and means, perception and availability of their use will be ensured .

During the meeting the President of the Union Zaruhi Batoyan has noted that the persons with disabilities would like the pre-election campaign to be accessible for the persons with listening disabilities, the campaign printing materials be accessible for the blind, and they will be simplified and easily readable for the citizens with mental problems. It is also proposed that within the pre-electoral campaign the air of the RA Public Television be with the translation of subtitles and synchronous gesture language, and the voting venues accessible for all the persons with disabilities.

Welcoming the guests the Committee Chairman Hovhannes Sahakyan has noted that the problems of the persons with disabilities are always at the centre of the state’s attention. According to Hovhannes Sahakyan, the Committee is ready to discuss and accept the proposals, which will be directed to facilitate the integration of the disabled to the public life. The Committee Chairman has informed that the proposals presented by the Union will discuss in the Working Group, and the admissible items will be included in the draft.

Tigran Mukuchyan has noted that in all the countries the problems with disabilities especially enjoy attention, and always an attempt is made to find corresponding solutions for different layers of the society through the steps to be taken, which will give opportunity to make the information, the order, mechanisms of voting, accessible, etc. Mr Mukuchyan touched upon the raised problems, presented the steps taken by the CEC in that direction.
