Eduard Sharmazanov Takes Part in the Event Dedicated to Greek Independence Day

On March 22, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov attended the event organized in Yerevan V. Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences, which was dedicated to the liberation of Greece from “the Ottoman yoke” on March 25, 1821 and the Armenian-Greek centuries-long friendship. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia Ioannis Taghis and the representatives of the Greek community attended the event. Highlighting the liberation of Greece from Ottoman rule, the RA NA Deputy Speaker congratulated the representatives of the Greek community and documented that at the fatal days for the Greek people the Armenians were next to them, and at the lethal days for Armenians the Greeks were next to them. In the NA Deputy Speaker’s word the fact that in the 1870s in the Ottoman Parliament the Greek deputies raised the Armenian question, speaks about the centuries-long friendship between the Armenians and the Greeks. In his speech Eduard Sharmazanov mentioned about the Greeks’ fight next to the Armenians in Saradarapat and in Artsakh heroic battles. Speaking about the Greeks living in Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that the Greeks of Armenia are ready to be a bridge between the friendly peoples, who are connected with each other with their past and present.

Gayane Gasparyan, President of Yerevan V. Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences, in her speech noted that the University opened a Greek Centre in 2012, where numerous students study Greek. Mrs Gasparyan handed letters of acknowledgement to the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia Ioannis Taghis for assisting V. Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences and especially the Greek Centre.
