On February 26, the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan met with Judith Farnworth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia.
Welcoming the Ambassador Koryun Nahapetyan highlighted the activation of the bilateral political contacts. He distinguished the establishment of cooperation with parliamentary format in the spheres of defense and security.
Touching the Constitutional reforms made in our country, the Committee Chairman underlined the exchange of experience with the parliament of Great Britain having progressive experience of parliamentary government, emphasizing the advisory support in the revision of the legislation in the spheres of defense and security and the upgrading of the parliamentary oversight tools.
The Ambassador noted the essential role of the parliaments in the development of the inter-state relations and expressed readiness to promote the deepening of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the process of the NK conflict settlement. Mr Nahapetyan has noted that Armenia assesses the balanced position of Great Britain in the settlement of the conflict and has welcomed the circumstance that though Great Britain is not a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, however supports the activities of the Minsk Group and is also for the peaceful settlement of the problem. The Committee Chairman reaffirmed that Armenia continues to remain faithful to the negotiation process going on under the auspice of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
During the meeting the sides also referred to the issues of regional security, problems of fighting the international terrorism and other issues.
