On September 18 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan met with Natalia Vutova, Head of the CoE Office in Yerevan.

Welcoming the guest, Artak Zakaryan highlighted the role of the CoE Office in Yerevan in showing support to the democratic processes in Armenia. According to the Committee Chairman, the Committee also contributes to the development and deepening of the bilateral and multilateral relations within the PACE framework. Artak Zakaryan expressed hope that Ms Vutova would continue the consistent work of the CoE Office in Yerevan aimed at strengthening Armenia-CoE relations within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly including.

Natalia Vutova has noted that the CoE Office aims at resuming the support for the implementation of the programmes directed at the development of democracy in Armenia. The latter highlighted the cooperation of the Office with the NA Standing Committees.

In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the constitutional reforms which began in the RA. Artak Zakaryan has noted that this process initiated by the RA President is the evidence that the Republic of Armenia has a goal to strengthen the realization of the rule of law principle and the provision of the more efficient mechanisms in guaranteeing human fundamental rights and freedoms. The importance of the useful professional activities of the Venice Commission was also underlined.

Talking about the process of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, Artak Zakaryan has noted that the Republic of Armenia highly assesses the balanced position of the Council of Europe in the solution of the conflict. In this context Artak Zakaryan also emphasized the solution of the problems relating to the execution of the human fundamental rights in the international still non-recognized territories, being a part of Europe, particularly in Nagorno Karabakh.

In connection with this Ms Vutova has stated that the Council of Europe is open in spreading democracy for the societies which are in the conflicting zones.
