Meeting at the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On May 21 the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan and the Committee member Tevan Poghosyan received Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the United Mexican States. Grigor Hovhannisyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the RA to the United Mexican States attended the meeting.

Welcoming Cuevas Barron, Artak Zakaryan underlined that her visit to Armenia would promote the dynamic development of the inter-parliamentary relations. Mr Zakaryan highlighted the cooperation with Mexico in bilateral and multilateral format.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee presented in detail to the guest the situation in the region, the necessity of the peaceful settlement of the NK problem, talked about the events of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, touched upon Armenia-Turkey relations, Armenia’s accession to the EEC, as well as the educational economic reforms being implemented in Armenia.

Thanking for the invitation to Armenia and the warm reception the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Mexico Gabriela Cuevas Barron has underlined that they will do their best to develop the partnership relations between the parliaments of the two countries. Mrs Barron has stressed that Mexico is ready to cooperate with Armenia in the spheres of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Dialogue was signed between the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United Mexican States and the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the RA National Assembly.

According to the Memorandum, “the Committees” have the goal to use mechanisms for the dialogue and cooperation within the frameworks of public and private spheres, international organizations and civil society structures.
