At the Armenian-Russian Friendship Parliamentary Club

On December 9 in the RA National Assembly at the Armenian-Russian Friendship Parliamentary Club the 9th sitting of the Club on the theme “The Accession of Armenia to the Eurasian Economic Union: the Response to the World Challenges” was held. The NA deputies, the RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, specialists of the sphere of international relations and other guests took part in the discussion.
The Russian Delegation was led by Valery Maximov, Head of Planning Department of the Presidential Directorate for Inter-regional and Cultural Relations with Foreign States.

On the occasion of the Armenian-Russian Friendship Parliamentary Club anniversary the Chief Adviser to the NA Speaker Vrezh Gasparyan read the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan’s address. The address reads that the Armenian-Russian Friendship Parliamentary Club has a big role in the development of the relations of the two countries. He has expressed confidence that the Club would continue its effective work, making closer the political positions of the two countries.

In the address of the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergey Narishkin is said that the Armenian and Russian peoples have always considered friends, as a result of which this Club has been founded. Here any issue concerning the Armenian-Russian relations, including Armenia’s accession to the EEU, the migration policy and other issues can be discussed. He has also expressed confidence that constructive discussions will be held in the Club.

The Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan has noted that Armenia’s accession to the EEU ensures the security of the country, besides, the majority of the society supports Armenia’s membership.

Nikolai Silayev, Senior Research Associate for the Caucasus and Regional Security Centre, has noted that as a result of the accession to the EEU, the RF will be a big trade partner for Armenia. During the meeting the parties have also discussed other political and economic issues.
