Latvian MFA Delegation Meetings in the Parliament

On July 15 Artak Zakaryan, Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, met with the members of the delegation led by Edward Stiprais, Deputy Secretary of State-MFA political director.

The interlocutors discussed issues of bilateral concern, highlighted deepening of Armenian-Latvian inter-parliamentary ties, touched upon Armenia-EU relations, especially underscoring the cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.

Artak Zakaryan noted that the delegation's visit will give a new impetus to the Armenian-Latvian relations. He spotlighted cooperation development in a number of spheres.

Touching upon Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union the Latvian MFA representative has stated that he understands and respects the RA decision and as a EU member state Latvia is ready to keep up cooperation with Armenia. Edward Stiprais also considered necessary to develop collaboration in a number of spheres.

During the meeting regional issues were also touched upon.

On the same day the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration Naira Zohrabyan also met with the members of the delegation headed by Deputy Secretary of State-MFA political director Edward Stiprais. Forasmuch as Latvia is going to preside in the EU, Naira Zohrabyan and Edward Stiprais discussed agenda issues of Armenia-EU cooperation. The sides agreed that the framework of the problems within which Armenia-EU further dialogue is to be continued and should in some way be legally fixed. Naira Zohrabyan has stated that it is necessary to understand whether the existing tools for Armenia-EU dialogue are satisfactory or not, otherwise new tools should be involved. The parties also emphasized the importance of Latvia and Armenia parliamentary dialogue and underscored that the parliamentary diplomacy needs to be intensified, which will be of great benefit to the process of Armenia's eurointegration.
