RA NA President Galust Sahakyan Meets the Chairperson of the RF FA Council of the Federation Valentina Matviyenko

On July 7 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan met with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Congratulating Galust Sahakyan on being elected the NA President and highly assessing the relations between the two countries, the Chairperson of the RF Council of the Federation expressed confidence that the cooperation framework of the two parliaments henceforth will be also extended, and the interaction will deepen both in bilateral and multilateral formats. She attached importance to the expansion of trade-economic ties, reinforcement of military-technical cooperation, further collaboration development in the humanitarian sphere. Mrs Matvieyenko documented with satisfaction the inter-regional successful cooperation, noting that the RF 70 entities cooperate with the marzes and cities of Armenia. Touching upon the Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Valentina Matviyenko highly assessed the active steps taken by Armenia in that direction. She welcomed the opening of Russian library and Armenian-Russian Friendship Club in the Armenian parliament in 2013. The Chairperson of the Council of the Federation deemed important and necessary the cooperation in the international parliamentary structures.

Thanking for the warm reception, the NA President has noted that Armenia greatly highlights the further expansion and promotion of the whole spectrum of bilateral relations with Russia, which is one of the most important directions of foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia. “Each visit, every official meeting is an important guideline for the development and reinforcement of the relations between the two countries,” mentioned Galust Sahakyan. To his conviction, the regular character of the meetings of heads, parliamentarians and officials of the two countries, parliamentary dialogue, as well as the wide scope of cooperation reaffirms the level of interaction between allies in the political, economic, humanitarian and strategic sphere. In the NA Speaker’s word, the inter-parliamentary collaboration has a great role in the bilateral cooperation, as well as in the formation of sound legal basis for the integration processes and the harmonization of national legislations. “I can assure you that the parliamentary cooperation is of progressive and regular character. In that context the Armenian-Russian Inter-parliamentary Committee has its significant role,” stated the NA Speaker. According to the NA Speaker, the boosting of trade-economic interaction is also one of the most important directions of bilateral cooperation; and Armenia takes necessary steps for the further expansion of trade-economic cooperation, primarily creating a favourable investment climate. Galust Sahakyan has noted that the inter-regional cooperation is also of upward character, and stable interaction is observed in the military-political and military-technical spheres.

In the context of the regional issues the NA Speaker highlighted the active role of Russia in the process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Mr Sahakyan invited Mrs Matviyenko to take part in the events dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims to be held in Yerevan in April 2015.

At the end of the meeting the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan left a note in the Book of Honourable Guests of the RF Council of the Federation and accompanied by Mrs Matviyenko took a tour in the building of the Council of the Federation.
