RA NA President Galust Sahakyan Receives the Hellenic Ambassador

On May 23 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Ioannis Tais, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Greece to the RA. The NA Vice President, Head of the Armenian-Greek Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov was attending the meeting.

The Ambassador congratulated Galust Sahakyan on the occasion of being elected the NA President and expressed confidence that the Armenian-Greek interparliamentary ties will continue developing and strengthening.

The NA President, thanking for the congratulations, called attention to the extension of bilateral and multilateral relations with Greece, and the development of high level political dialogue. In this context the further development of cooperation between the two parliaments and the intensive work of the Friendship Group were spotlighted. Galust Sahakyan has mentioned that the year 2015 sees the centenary of the Armenian Genocide and thanked for recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Hellenic Parliament back in 1996, which was a significant step towards the internationalization of the issue.

The Greek Ambassador also considered necessary the deepening of the bilateral cooperation in different directions and pointed up the further advancement of interparliamentary ties. He expressed gratitude for observing a minute of silence in the RA National Assembly in the memory of victims of the genocide perpetrated towards the Christian people and mainly the Pontic Greek by Ottoman Turkey in the territory of Asia Minor on May 19.

The parties highlighted the intensification of cooperation in various sectors of economy, noting that there is a big unused potential for the development of trade-economic ties. The deepening of cooperation in the international structures was mutually accentuated.
