NA Deputies Meet with the Delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

On March 27 the Head of the Armenian Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Koryun Nahapetyan, the members of the delegation and the representatives of the NA factions met with the delegation led by José Lello, Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Committee on Political Affairs.

Welcoming the guests Koryun Nahapetyan highly appreciated the effective cooperation of the National Assembly with the NATO PA in terms of democratic reforms in the RA Armed Forces, implementation of civil control, highlighted the participation of the RA Armed Forces in the international peacekeeping mission and expressed hope that the Individual Partnership Action Plan will be continuous.

José Lello, Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Committee on Political Affairs, highlighted the NATO-Armenia cooperation, highly assessed Armenia’s efforts in the inner-state reforms and regional security. According to him, their visit will boost the situation of the country and is aimed at getting acquainted with the possibilities on the spot, which will be wound up in the report to be introduced in the NATO PA in May. Numerous meetings are designed with the leadership of the country, representatives and experts of different organizations for that purpose. To his assessment, they approach with perception to the priorities Armenia’s foreign policy conditioned by geopolitical situation and regional sensible problems and try to support Armenia.

In the course of the meeting the sides discussed issues regarding the international security, the role of the NATO in that aspect, Armenia’s peaceful efforts in the regional security and the parliamentary agenda of the defense sphere. In this context the Armenian parliamentarians highlighted the process of the peaceful settlement of the NK problem within the framework of the Minsk Group, touched upon the problems regional security and Armenia’s blockade and expressed concern over the events taking place in the Armenian-populated city of Kessab.

In the course of the meeting other issues of mutual were also discussed.
