RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Meets with the Students

On March 6 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan in the NA Session Hall met with the students of different faculties of about 10 higher educational institutions passing practice in the National Assembly. The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan and the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan attended the meeting.

Welcoming the students’ visit to the parliament, the NA President has highlighted the fact that the students, passing practice in the legislative body, have an opportunity to attend the NA sittings, in the debates implementing in the committees, communicating with the deputies and getting familiarized with the peculiarities of the legislative work. During the meeting which lasted more than an hour the NA President presented to the students the geo-political developments, the regional problems, the economic policy pursued by Armenia, touched upon the investment of the compulsory accumulating pension system and the social reforms implementing in our country. All the voiced questions and concerns received exhaustive answers. During the A & Q session the NA President also referred to the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, the economic policy of the country, emigration and the problems of creating jobs.

Hovik Abrahamyan has introduced the challenges of the foreign policy and the economy facing our country to the young people and has noted the prior directions for Armenia, which are at the centre of the authorities’ every-day attention. Touching upon Armenia’s decision of joining the Customs Union, Mr Abrahamyan has mentioned that it stems from the interests of our country and is conditioned by geo-political realities. He has noted that Armenia will continue to develop and deepen the relations with the European Union. The Head of the parliament has said that the prior problem of our country is to ensure security of the NK and Armenia, in this context highlighting the availability of competitive army in the region. Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the rapidly changing world and underlined that the deputies, being the elected ones by the people, should voice the problems concerning the community. In this context he has referred to the newly established NA Ad-hoc Inquiry Committee on the Activity of the RA Gas Supply System, underscoring that the creation of similar committees aimed at the consideration of issues concerning the society will be of continuous character.

Talking about the interpellation regarding the shortcomings and advantages of the compulsory accumulating pension system, the NA President has opined that it is a reform, and in the future, if there are provisions contradicting the Constitution, then the parliament will touch upon the problems and solve them. As Chairman of the responsible Committee for the sphere Hakob Hakobyan introduced details on compulsory accumulating pension system and answered the students’ numerous questions. Artak Davtyan also clarified the voiced interpellations on the spheres of the activity of the Committee led by him.

At the end of the meeting Hovik Abrahamyan urged the students to study well, get knowledge during the educational years, to become a good person for their families and relatives, and a proper citizen for the state. Stressing that the NA doors are always open for the students the Head of the parliament has noted that if there is again a wish to meet with him, he is ready to meet with them and discuss all the problems.
