On February 19 the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan met with Elita Gavele, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Armenia and Juris Poikāns, the Ambassador-at-Large for Eastern Partnership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
In the course of the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the foreign policy of Armenia, in particular, discussed the cooperation and new opportunities within the framework of the EU European Partnership after the decision made on September 3 on Armenia’s joining the Customs Union. Artak Zakaryan has noted that joining the Customs Union cannot negatively influence on Armenia-European Union bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation, as Armenia is ready to continue and develop the cooperation formed with the European Union member countries, particularly in the spheres of human rights, implementation of democratic reforms, science, culture and in other humanitarian spheres.
Artak Zakarian also presented the regional situation and the position of Armenia on the regional problems.
In the course of the meeting within the framework of the Eastern Partnership during the presidency of Latvia the possible priorities were discussed. Artak Zakaryan has noted that Azerbaijan regularly impedes all the initiatives of having stable and peaceful region, having negative impact in the formation of atmosphere of trust.
The sides touched upon a number of programmes designed for the successful procedure of the presidency of Latvia.
