National Assembly Debates the Issue of Appointing the RA Prosecutor General

On September 30 the National Assembly began the work of the next four-day sittings.

After approving the agendas of the session and four-day sittings the parliament by voting passed the bills debated at the previous sitting, then continued to debate the report of the Public TV Company on the Activity of the Public TV Company for 2012 interrupted at the previous four-day sittings.

Hayk Babukhanyan presented the viewpoint of the Head Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport on the issue under debate.

The NA deputies presented their viewpoints on the issue under debate.

The NA Vice President Hermine Naghdalyan noticed that though the works of the Public TV Company improve year by year there is still a lot to do. Hermine Naghdalyan proposed to debate with the Head Committee the existing problems and to submit recommendations to the National Assembly aimed at eliminating them.

The NA deputy Ruzanna Muradyan proposed to define by law the quality of the programmes and mechanisms settling the air time also creating a controlling body. Hovhannes Margaryan welcomed the readiness of the Chairman of the Public TV Company Council in focusing his attention on Shirak TV Company, showing it financial assistance and implementing reforms in the sphere. Aram Manukyan expressed hope that his interpellation on the incomes received from the commercials will get positive response. Artsvik Minasyan noticed that the Public Radio Company beneficially differs from the TV Company. Armen Mkhitaryan urged the Chairman of the Council to increase the quantity of the TV programmes with instructive, military-patriotic direction. Samvel Farmanyan highlighted the content, fairness of the TV programmes, the existence of the disputable platform in the broadcasting, the technical upgrading of the company and the employees’ professionalism.

Introducing the view of the Heritage faction, Rubik Hakobyan has noted that unless the Public TV Company does not present the public picture, does not form public opinion, its work cannot be deemed effective.

In his final speech the Chairman of the Public TV and Radio Company Council Ruben Jaghinyan sharing many viewpoints sounded in the speeches assured that in the next broadcasting period the deputies would watch TV programmes of qualitatively other level which would answer their concerns.

The National Assembly also debated the issue of appointing the RA Prosecutor General. The NA President Hovik Abrahamyan noticed that in accordance with Article 103 of the RA Constitution the President of the Republic recommended Gevorg Kostanyan’s candidacy in the post of the RA Prosecutor General, and now the National Assembly would debate the issue of his appointment.

Gevorg Kostanyan introduced his understanding of effective organization of the activity of the Prosecutor’s Office in case of being appointed in the post of the RA Prosecutor General.

Gevorg Kostanyan also answered the NA deputies’ questions. The NA deputies delivered speeches on the issue under debate.

The National Assembly will resume the debate of the issue of appointing the RA Prosecutor General at October 1 sitting.
