NA Vice President Receives the Delegation of the Czech Parliament

On April 18 the Vice President of the RA National Assembly, Head of Armenia-Czech Republic Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov received the Chairman of the Standing Committee for European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Bauer, Deputy Chairmen Jaroslav Lobkowicz, František Novosad and the member of the committee Soňa Marková .

In the course of the meeting issues concerning the Armenian-Czech parliamentary relations and Armenia’s European integration were discussed.

Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the reforms made in different sectors of Armenia’s economy and legislative field and the democratic development of the country during recent years. He assessed the possibilities of the development of relations of Armenia with the Czech Republic from now on higher, as Embassy of Armenia will already function in Prague. Eduard Sharmazanov has said that Armenia is resolutely intended in making the policy of European integration continuous, the activation of cooperation in different spheres with the European Union and its member countries, particularly, with the Czech Republic.

The NA Vice President has also urged the Czech colleagues to show balanced approach to the regional problems, noting that the resolution adopted on Khojalu events by one of the committees of the Czech Parliament does not only correspond with the reality, but it also does not stem from the interests of the peaceful negotiations.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee for European Affairs of the Czech Parliament Jan Bauer noted that the goal of their visit was to get acquainted with Armenia’s achievements and problems. He highlighted the efforts made by the two countries aimed at strengthening the inner-state and inter-parliamentary relations and assured that the Czech Republic was ready to promote Armenia’s democratic processes and convey its experience of European integration to the friendly country.

Both sides also discussed problems relating to the regional security, Armenian-Turkish relations, Nagorno Karabakh problem and recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
