RA NA President Receives the Special Representative of the General Secretary of the Council of Europe to the RA

On March 19 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received the Special Representative of the General Secretary of the Council of Europe to the RA Olksandr Pavlyuk.

Congratulating Oleksandr Pavlyuk on the occasion of his appointment, the NA President expressed conviction that he would successfully carry on the consistent work of the CoE Office in Yerevan aimed at the further enhancement of the CoE-RA partnership relations. Hovik Abrahamyan has stressed that Armenia highly appreciates the cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as the support of the organization in the process of democratic reforms going on in our country. With respect to this the NA President has deemed important Armenia-Council of Europe 2012-2014 Action programme, which is called for to support Armenia to fulfill the assumed obligations. Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that the RA National Assembly emphasizes the deepening of effective cooperation with the office of the Council of Europe and has expressed readiness to support it.

Thanking for reception Mr Pavlyuk highlighted the further development of the CoE-RA cooperation in different directions. He has noted that since joining the Council of Europe the Republic of Armenia for the first time will assume the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from May 16, 2013, which will give new quality to CoE-RA cooperation. In his word, Armenia has obtained a unique opportunity for showing the capacities of its leading and adherence to European values. The Special Representative of the General Secretary of the Council of Europe to the RA has highly assessed the effective cooperation with the RA National Assembly and has expressed conviction that the meetings of the PACE Presidential Committee, Bureau and Standing Committees to be held in Yerevan on May 29-31 will greatly promote the deepening of cooperation between the RA National Assembly-PACE.

In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
