Meeting at the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On March 11 the Deputy Chairman of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Alexander Arzumanyan met with the Head of the Northern and Eastern Europe Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Eliška Žigová . The Charges d’Affaires of the Czech Republic to the RA Petr Mikyska and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic Ivan Jestřáb were also attending the meeting.

Welcoming the guests in the parliament Alexander Arzumanyan has deemed useful such meetings, noting that they are a good basis for developing the bilateral relations.

In the course of the meeting the sides highlighted the deepening and activation of cooperation in different formats between the two countries.

Touching upon the resolution of recognizing “The Genocide of Khojalu” by the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies, the Czech side has noted it is not the approach of the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic, and it is painful that such event has happened. Eliška Žigová has noted that accepting the activity of the Minsk Group, the Czech Republic continues its balanced policy and does not think that such statements cannot be useful.

Both sides highlighted Armenia’s path adopted in the direction of European integration, the quick signing of Armenia-EU Association Agreement, as well as the need of deepening of reforms in building of democracy.

Welcoming the progress of Armenia on the path of European integration the Head of the Northern and Eastern Europe Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Eliska Zigova has noted that within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Armenia very actively cooperates with the European Union, and the Czech Republic is concerned about more enlargement of that cooperation.

During the meeting the sides also touched upon the presidential elections held in Armenia, the inner-political situation, discussed regional problems, in particular, referred to the Armenian-Turkish relations and the Nagorno Karabakh problem.
