NA Speaker Samvel Nikoyan Receives the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Latvia to Armenia

On April 12 RA National Assembly Speaker Samvel Nikoyan received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Latvia to the Republic of Armenia Gints Apals.

Welcoming the Ambassador in the National Assembly Mr Nikoyan touched upon the bilateral enlivening ties, highlighted their further activation and the expansion of cooperation spheres. In his word the parliamentary ties are reserved a special place in the Armenian-Latvian relations, and the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation is important. With respect to laying them on more stable bases and effectively organizing, the expansion of cooperation was considered necessary with all possible formats.

The parties, besides mutual visits of the Speakers and Deputy Speakers of the parliaments, also deemed expedient the organization of the mutual visits and meetings at the level of Parliamentary Friendship Groups, Standing Committees, the delegations of the two countries in different Parliamentary Assemblies. Informing the guest that Armenia-Latvia Friendship Group has always been functioning in the RA NA, the Speaker of the Parliament expressed confidence that it would be rapidly shaped after the upcoming elections.

Taking into account the fact of Armenia-Latvia Parliamentary Friendship Group being representational the RA NA Speaker expressed hope that the cooperation between the two parliaments would also develop within framework of international structures, particularly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of Security and Cooperation of Europe and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In his turn Ambassador Gints Apals has said that in their parliament Armenia-Latvia multi-member Parliamentary Friendship Group has been shaped, which in the number of its members, 30 MPs, is the biggest among the others. In his word, this is a good testimony of respect and interest towards each other, readiness of more deepening the relations. According to the Ambassador, Latvia is concerned about expanding the cooperation with Armenia in all spheres, as inter-parliamentary, so as politics, economy, science, and culture. In the name of the Head of the Parliament of his country Gints Apals invited the RA NA Speaker to visit Latvia, expressing hope that the visit will not make waiting long after the upcoming parliamentary elections.
