RA NA Speaker Receives the British Parliamentarians

On April 18 RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the delegation headed by the Chairwoman of the British-Armenian All-Party Parliamentary Group of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Baroness Caroline Cox.

Greeting the guests the NA Speaker noted that he highly assessed the activity of the British-Armenian All-Party Parliamentary Group of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In his word, Armenia attaches great importance to the development of relations with the United Kingdom in different spheres. The NA Speaker noted the need of activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation not only with bilateral format, but also with multilateral format. To Hovik Abrahamyan’s conviction, the parliamentary diplomacy is one of the important levers for boosting the political dialogue between the two countries, and it’s necessary to enliven the bilateral visits of the delegations at different levels between the parliaments of Armenia and Great Britain. He voiced confidence that the visit of the British parliamentarians would boost and serve as a new impetus for the deepening of relations between the parliaments of the two countries, expansion of cooperation, enlivening of the activity of the parliamentary friendship groups, activation of bilateral visits.

At the request of the MPs of the United Kingdom, who visited Armenia for the first time, the NA Speaker presented the background of the Karabakh problem, Armenia’s position and approaches on it. The NA Speaker touched upon today’s situation of the processes of the Armenian-Turkish relations and the NK conflict settlement, highlighting the need of forming an objective opinion on them. In the European structures the Armenian delegations carry out activities, provide necessary information in order the foreign MPs would have right picture about Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.Hovik Abrahamyan noted within the framework of his visit to the European Parliament in June of the last year he had a meeting in the Foreign Affairs Committee and answered to the questions of the deputies of the European Parliament. As a result of the agreements reached during the meetings different factions representing the European Parliament visited Armenia and the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, get acquainted with the situation on the spot and specify their positions based on the objective information. He considered important the objective awareness of the international structures on the NK problem and exclusion of double standards.

The guests reaffirmed their willingness to promote the deepening of the inner-state relations by activating and developing the bilateral inter-parliamentary relations. At the meeting the sides discussed issues related to Armenia’s domestic and foreign policies, as well as other issues of bilateral interest.

We’ll note that the visit of the delegation headed by the Chairwoman of the British-Armenian All-Party Parliamentary Group of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Caroline Cox to Nagorno Karabakh is expected.
