RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan sent a congratulatory message on the New Year and Christmas, where it says:

"Dear compatriots,

We are going to meet the next year with new expectations and, of course, new hopes.

In 2010 was one more phase of the development path of the country accompanied with external and internal impulses, one more probation period of our young statehood. The passing year was not the easiest one in the life of our country but we tried to do our best for overcoming the difficulties.

As in the previous years, so this year the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia had its considerable contribution in strengthening of the statehood building and in the process of promoting the progress of the country, initiating and passing laws stemming from the spirit of the reforms. The parliament showed with its work that as higher legislative power permanently deals with the problems of the country and the society and an energetic participant of their solution. I am sure that next year too the National Assembly will keep in its field of vision the problems concerning the society, displaying itself as influential political body, and remaining as a democratic tribune of plurality.

As Speaker of the National Assembly I have repeatedly stated that the parliament should be an open and public tribune for healthy proposals and also for healthy criticism. I would like to stress that I will be consistent in raising the role of the legislative higher power of Armenia and I’ll do everything possible for that.

The year 2010 was also rather full in the aspect of the development of the inter-parliamentary relations. The parliamentary delegations of Armenia actively took part in the international structures, in the processes concerning the foreign political issues of the country, steps were taken to make the ties closer with the parliaments and parliamentary structures of different countries for the benefit of the rise of the international prestige of the Republic of Armenia. We extremely emphasize the parliamentary diplomacy as a powerful factor of inner-state relations, as an important format of cooperation between the peoples.

Every passing year is the continuation of the previous one because the development supposes at least small, but progressive steps with consciousness that for having a state, well-to-do society laid on firm bases we should not only face the difficulties and survive, but also overcome them and develop. And with that distinct aim we should be able to move forward with joint steps in the atmosphere of mutual trust to the implementation of reforms, the fulfilment of expectations, build well-to-do Armenia.

I am sure that our country headed by RA President Serzh Sargsyan will confidently go on to development with more dignified society, more competitive economy, with the confident aim of having more powerful and democratic state.
