On August 10 in Tsakhkadzor the International Mime Festival opened with the name of the greatest mime master Leonid Yengibaryan. The festival is held under the patronage of RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, who also attended the opening ceremony of the festival. In his address to the festival participants RA NA Speaker said: “This beautiful initiative, the Mime Festival, which brings together the influential bearers of the ‘poetic silence,’ is loved and expected for the lovers of the genre. Two years ago the International Mime Festival was founded. Besides presenting the well-known experience of abroad the festival is aimed at boosting the development of the old traditions of that noblest genre in the context of already world theatrical processes.
I wish the festival long life and expansion of geography.”
The opening of the festival also attended the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan.
This year theatres from Armenia, USA, Russia, Georgia, France belonging to the genre of mime and the grandson of Leonid Yengibaryan Peter Popper from the Czech Republic, put in an applications to take part in the festival, which will last till August 15. On the first day of the festival the latter presented two works of his genius grandfather ‘The Violin’ and ‘The Umbrella.’
We’ll remind that on March 15 was the 75th birthday anniversary Leonid Yengibaryan. The RA Ministry of Culture, Yerevan State Mime Theatre and the National Assembly worked out series of the jubilee events. The events dedicated to Yengibaryan’s jubilee began on March 27 at the National Assembly Park.
