At Ad-Hoc Committee of the National Assembly

On September 26 the sitting of the Ad-Hoc Inquiry Committee into the Events Occurred on 1-2 March 2008 in Yerevan and Their Reasons was held presided over Mr Samvel Nikoyan.

At the sitting some episodes of the videocassette provided by opposition were discussed. The head of the investigation group Mr, Vahagn Harutyunyan, investigator Mr Vaghinak Mkrtchyan, director of the scientific practical center of the forensic examinations Mr Shota Vardanyan were invited to the committee sitting, as well as the persons being near the French Embassy in Armenia Tigran Kirakosyan, Garik Hovakimyan and Roman Grigoryan.

The head of the investigation group Mr, Vahagn Harutyunyan presented clarifications on some episodes of the video material and answered the questions of the committee members. It was noted that about 4 a.m. of March 1-2 in Grigor Lusavorich street a taxi was stopped, where stolen goods were. To find out the identity of the passengers of the car and the driver, as well the way of getting the goods the officials of the military police stopped them to check, and after that they were brought to the police station. The same day they were examined, and an expertise of the disclosed goods was appointed. It was noted that the identity of the young people had been already known at night of March 1-2, and the pre-investigation body fully carried out the investigative actions. Regarding the trace of the liquid appearing on the wall, the officials of the French Embassy in Armenia were examined on this occasion too, who in their testimony said that they haven’t been a witness to the violence applied to anybody. They said that before the events they saw people, who prepared bottles with easily inflammable liquid.

Tigran Kirakosyan, Garik Hovakimyan and Roman Grigoryan shown in the videocassette answered the committee members’ questions. They noted that violence was not applied towards them, nobody was wounded or killed at the wall of the embassy, and the trace on the wall was not blood, but fuel.

During the sitting the shot of the driven into existing in the video material was discussed. Mr Vahagn Harutyunyan said that the resident of village of Marmarashen of Ararat marz Gevorg Tevanyan was driven into. According to the witnesses’ testimony, it was clarified that a civilian, whose identity has not been clarified, drove the UAZ police car. He drove into Gevorg Tevanyan, and then hit the curb. The driver got the car and escaped. After getting out of the hospital Gevorg Tevanyan was examined.

Regarding the scene of the beating shown in the videocassette, it was nooted that the criminal case was instituted by a number of articles of the Criminal Code, including an examination was carried out to clarify the actions of the police officials and give evaluations in that direction.

The issue of a man's head and blood, as if, shown in one of the shots was also discussed. The director of the scientific practical center of the forensic examinations Mr Shota Vardanyan said that by the written document of the Prosecutor’s office and NA Ad-Hoc Committee they did examination of the videocassette with the participation of the best specialists of Armenia. All of them substantiated that the bone fragments were not of a man, but of a piglet. The cheekbone was of piglet, the tongue of a sheep or a calf. To his conviction, the videocassette was edited. Mr Vahagn Harutyunyan said such picture with the examination of the scene of the event was not disclosed.
