Delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus hosted in Parliament

On March 7, the Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Hayk Konjoryan and the Committee members met with the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos.

The both sides highly valued the excellent cooperation between the friendly countries at both the legislative and executive levels, underlined that the two states historically have similar challenges and problems.

Hayk Konjoryan expressed his gratitude to the Cypriot side for always being by our side during many ordeal s Armenian people faced and for voicing appropriate statements and positions. The Head of the Civil Contract Faction highlighted the effective bilateral relations on the international platforms as well, expressed hope that the positive dynamics will continue. The full realization of the existing potential of cooperation in the trilateral format Armenia-Greece-Cyprus has become important.

Constantinos Kombos reaffirmed the position of Cyprus regarding the RA territorial integrity and sovereignty. “Cyprus is against everything that does not correspond to the international law,” the Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs stated.

The Committee members highlighted the importance of the delegation's visit to Armenia in the context of regional security challenges, underscored the need for an appropriate response of the international community to what happened in Nagorno-Karabakh. They also talked about the policy of ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan, the return of the Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons in that country, the preservation of the Armenian historical and cultural heritage. It was noted that Azerbaijan is consistently eliminating the Armenian footprint in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In order to record mutually visible results, the expansion of opportunities for cooperation in various fields was valued, in that context, the key role of the Armenian community of Cyprus was emphasized. The necessity to open embassies in both countries, and the activation of mutual visits at the parliamentary level was referred to.
