On March 21, the RA National Assembly started the work of regular sittings by approving the agendas of the RA NA fifth session of the eighth convocation and regular sittings.
The Parliament debated the draft statement of the RA National Assembly authored by the NA Armenia Faction on military-political aggression, terrorist and provocative steps carried out by Azerbaijan against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, closing the Berdzor (Lachin) Corridor, which the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations has not endorsed.
The key rapporteur Andranik Tevanyan presented the draft, in which, among other provisions, the provocative steps taken by Azerbaijan to close the Lachin Corridor on December 3 and 12 connecting Armenia and Artsakh under the false pretext of environmental protection are strongly condemned.
In the related report, Maria Karapetyan noted that on December 14, after Azerbaijan closed the Lachin Corridor, the RA National Assembly adopted a statement on Azerbaijan’s instigation of a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in force. She mentioned that in the text of the statement authored by Armenia Faction, there are a number of formulations and words on which there was no consensus as a result of the debate held, so the Committee did not endorse the draft. According to Maria Karapetyan, the draft of the statement should include such wordings, by which the position of Armenia will be in harmony with the positions of the international community.
The Faction Secretary Artsvik Minasyan spoke on behalf of the NA Armenia Faction, noting that the objective of the statement is to push the international community and the entire progressive society to cooperate with Armenians in preventing Aliyev’s genocidal policy.
The Head of the NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan said that the parliament adopted the NA statement last December, and this draft does not differ significantly from the already adopted draft in its content. “This draft statement does not solve the problems that the opposition publicly claims about,” Hayk Konjoryan said.
The NA Civil Contract Faction did not participate in the voting on the issue.
28 MPs voted for the draft.
The draft statement was not included in the agenda of the fifth session of the eighth convocation.
