On March 20, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the Deputy Chair of Germany-South Caucasus Friendship Group of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Tabea Rößner.
Alen Simonyan informed that next week he will be in Germany on a working visit next week. He noted that Germany is among the EU countries the biggest trade-economic partner of Armenia, highlighting the assistance of Germany to the democratic agenda of Armenia. The application of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the support of Germany in this issue was also emphasized.
At the meeting a reference was made in detail to the security problems facing Armenia. The German colleagues noted that every day the security architecture is modified in the world, resulting in new rearrangements.
The humanitarian problems caused because of 44-day war of 2020, the consequences of the Lachin Corridor were discussed. “On February 22, 2023 the International Court of Justice made a legally binding decision against Azerbaijan, which obliged to undertake all necessary means to ensure the unimpeded movement of the persons, transport means and cargos along the Lachin Corridor in two directions,” Alen Simonyan mentioned, reminding that after the decision of the Court, on March 5, there was an offensive on the police officers of Nagorno Karabakh, and three citizens of Nagorno Karabakh fell victims.
He underscored that we expect from German colleagues undertaking of practical steps to ensure the urgent implementation of the Court decision by Azerbaijan.
The RA NA President thanked the Government of Germany for supporting the decision of deploying a new EU long-term Monitoring Mission in Armenia, expressing conviction that it will play an essential role in the region in the establishment of peace and security.
