The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan, the members of the Committee, as well as the NA Armenia-Georgia Friendship Group Lena Nazaryan, Sargis Khandanyan being in the delegation led by the RA NA President met with the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament Nikoloz Samkharadze.

The sides underlined the necessity of deepening cooperation between legislative bodies, and especially, the namesake Committees. In this context Eduard Aghajanyan and Nikoloz Samkharadze signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Committees on Foreign Relations of the Parliaments of Armenia and Georgia.

The interlocutors touched upon the problems regarding the regional security.

After the meeting the Chairs of the Committees on Foreign Relations made a joint statement for the representatives of the mass media.

As Eduard Aghajanyan evaluated, the effective cooperation in different spheres with Georgia is of strategic importance, which is recorded in the Action Plan of the RA Government for 2021-2026. “I am sure that the signed Memorandum will contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations,” the Chair of the NA Committee expressed his opinion.

Speaking about the regional problems, the MP noted that Armenia is interested in the security of the region. In this context Eduard Aghajanyan underlined that the turning of the relations between Georgia and Armenia into a new phase is the guarantee of that security. “The Georgian colleagues expressed readiness for assuming the role of mediator in the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” the Armenian legislator said.

Nikoloz Samkharadze considered the signing of the Memorandum as an important decision, taking into consideration the fact that this year the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is marked.

It was noted that within the framework of the Memorandum the Committees will hold joint meetings and will exchange experience.
