SJC Nominates Candidacies of Lusine Abgaryan, Karen Batikyan and Sergey Chichoyan for a Vacant Position of a Judge of Judicial Composition of Investigation of Corruption Crimes of Anti-Corruption Chamber of Court of Cassation

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) nominated candidacies of Lusine Abgaryan, Karen Batikyan and Sergey Chichoyan for a vacant position of a judge of the judicial composition of the investigation of the corruption crimes of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation.

The SJC member Davit Khachaturyan presented the candidates’ biographical data, the professional qualities and the path passed.

The candidate Lusine Abgaryan presented some considerations on the fight against corruption. According to her, the corruption violates the rule of law, violates the citizens’ constitutional rights. The speaker stressed the necessity of the effective fight against corruption. It was noted that by creation of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation the fight against corruption will be completed, which would promote the formation and development of the predictable justice environment.

In his speech the candidate Sergey Chichoyan spoke about the role and significance of the Anti-Corruption Court, as well as the positive and negative factors going on in the judicial power. He touched upon some problems, which take place in the judicial power. Sergey Chichoyan also voiced the positive changes, which took place in the abovementioned sphere, within the framework of the judicial-legal reforms. “During the last years we can document that due to the efforts made by three branches of power the number of those wishing to become judge has considerably increased in comparison. About one year ago we had 230 judges working. Thanks to the efforts of the Government and the NA, the number has increased, becoming 280,” the candidate noted.

The other candidate for the judge of the judicial composition of the investigation of the corruption crimes of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation, Karen Batikyan did not attend the extraordinary sitting.
